Television mainstays Holly Willougby and Phillip Schofield’s relationship appears untenable amid reports of a bitter feud. Schofield’s departure comes after a miserable few weeks for the 61-year-old as reports of in-fighting and a recent scandal with an ITV employee grew.
The This Morning co-stars have been the presenters of the show since 2009 and have become stalwarts over their 14-year pairing.
They were previously known and revered for their on-screen chemistry, banter, and longevity, presenting the admittedly-dull show with a level of charisma that made it seem a lot more interesting than it actually was.
Daytime television is bland by its very nature, however the pair always made the show at-least watchable.
Conflict And Rumours
A conflict has emerged between the two recently, however, and a recent scandal has rendered Schofield’s ITV career effectively over. The alleged bickering between the two started several months ago, however, and some trace it back to the much-publicized ‘Quegate’ scandal, where the pair were accused of using their status to jump the line during the Queen’s lying-in-state period.
Rumours of a rift continued to circulate, with the legal issues involving Schofield’s brother making the already-tense issue even worse.
The news of the breakup has rattled longtime This Morning viewers, with some stating that they cannot believe that Willoughby and Schofield aren’t the perfect people they appear to be on TV.
This news may come as a shock to some, but the television industry is built on the art of deception.
Benevolent On-Screen Characters
Richard Madeley may be the only TV host who I can trust. The legend may be prone to a poorly-timed comment now and then, but I get the sense that the 67-year-old is a true ‘what you see is what you get’ person.
I have no time for the vast majority of television hosts, however, and I’m never shocked to hear that they turn out not to be the smiling, benevolent figures they cast during their programs. The fallout between Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield may make for good gossip, but let’s remember that their on-screen portrayals are effectively characters.
