Welcome Back Frank

Frank Lampard is set to make his heroic return to Stamford Bridge as he takes over Chelsea’s interim-manager role until the end of the season. He can, however, cement the full-time position should he turn around the Blues’ miserable league form and bring optimism back to the blue part of London.

The club-legend was previously employed by Chelsea as Head Coach between 2019 and 2021 and he guided the club to 4th in his first season whilst building the foundations of the side who’d go on to win the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea And Everton Sacking

Lampard was sacked by Roman Abramhovic in January 2021 after some less-than-impressive form and a battering at the hands of Manchester City. Deemed not good enough to lead Chelsea into the 2020s, the former midfielder left his beloved club with his tail firmly between his legs.

Everton employed Lampard in January 2022 and the Englishman managed to achieve Premier League survival in his first season, masterminding a stunning comeback win over Crystal Palace in one of their final games of the 21/22 season. Handcuffed by Everton’s topsy-turvy ownership, the former Chelsea player was forced out of the door of Goodison Park through no fault of his own.

British Managers Need Backing

Some will say that Lampard is failing upwards in his career and seems to get lucrative and prestigious managerial roles despite a lack of pedigree and experience. To them, I say that British managers are severely-lacking in elite football and figures such as Lampard and Gerrard must be given a chance if they are to reverse that trend.

Recent weeks have seen Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter receive the sack, and only Eddie Howe remains when it comes to British managers in the Premier League’s upper-echelons.

I fully back Lampard to correct the mistakes from his first spell at Stamford Bridge and I wish more people see the potential in him. Never given a proper, fair chance in management, the legend has a lot of critics to prove wrong. Blessed with a strong footballing mind and Chelsea’s deep, expensive squad, I guarantee that the malaise at Stamford Bridge will soon come to an end.

Champions League Victory?

It would be deeply poetic if Lampard followed in Thomas Tuchel’s shoes by winning Chelsea the Champions League this season. Too much time has passed for him to have a proper stab at the league title or even the top four, but the Englishman could conceivably lift the Champions League trophy at the end of next month - a prospect everyone, regardless of club affiliation, would relish.

The first game of the second Frank Lampard era will be against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. I fully back Lampard to deliver the goods and show the old Chelsea regime exactly what they missed out on.
