Bacary Sagna: Jesus Is The Main Man

Former Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has hailed the Gunners’ “fantastic” new signing Gabriel Jesus – and claims he will be “the main man” at the Emirates Stadium.

The Brazilian, 25, moved to North London from Manchester City – another of Sagna’s old teams – so the ex-Citizen has seen his quality first-hand.

He is convinced that the move will be mutually beneficial for both player and club, as Arsenal can offer the striker a regular starting berth – something he did not have at City.

Jesus Praise

Speaking exclusively to Lord Ping, Sagna said: “I'm very excited. Arsenal Football Club means a lot to me, so when I see players like [Jesus] join the club it makes me happy.

“I know him very well – I played with him at City – he has a fantastic mentality and is a fantastic person.

“His arrival will benefit the club massively, while he will also know that he is going to Arsenal to be the main man.

“He will know that he has the full support of the club and the manager, which will be different for him, because at City, you never know if you will play in the next game.

“I think this will help him improve as a player and I think he will relish the challenge of leading the team's attack and being the main man at Arsenal.

“HIs pedigree is fantastic. He is a regular starter in the Brazil national team and he played for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“All of the Arsenal players will improve by playing with him and he can help them win because he knows what it takes to lift trophies.

“He is a brilliant signing because he has a winning mentality and is a champion. I can’t wait to see him in an Arsenal shirt this season.”

Signing A Big Statement

Sagna also feels the arrival of Jesus will aid the club’s chances of landing their other transfer targets, as well as keeping their own young talent at the club.

“It [Signing Jesus] is a big statement and it proves that Arteta’s project is exciting and moving in the right direction,” he explained.

“The players that are linked with Arsenal will see the vision clearly. Talented players will want to be part of this project and team.

“Also, you have to think that Gabriel Jesus has signed a long-term contract – that shows he is committed to helping Arsenal challenge and I really believe that in one or two years they will be challenging for the title again.

“If you think about the experience that he has and he is only 25. Wow!

“These players [Arsenal’s youngsters] will benefit from playing with him because he has the mentality of a champion and he can be an inspiration for them because he is not that much older than they are.

“Pep Guardiola had so much faith in him. He would normally start all of City’s biggest matches – he scored lots of key goals there.

“I'm telling you, as a defender, I was very happy to play with him. He was sprinting on players, and was as committed to his defensive duties as he was scoring goals.

“For these younger players, it also demonstrates that Arsenal is a club that is going places.

“Gabriel Jesus is a big player and every player wants to play with the best possible and win trophies – he can help them do that at Arsenal.

“He reminds me of Andre-Pierre Gignac because of his hunger to press, his fast thinking and his competitive edge.

“Gignac was a guy that loved scoring! I honestly can’t believe that he never played for one of the world’s biggest clubs because he had everything as a player.

“Gabriel Jesus has the same qualities. Whenever he plays he wants to show how good he is.

“I appreciated his effort in relentlessly pressing the opponent – it gave me a break! As a player, when a team-mate demonstrates this level of commitment, it lifts everybody.”

Gunners Have The Better Brazilian

Arsenal’s North London rivals Tottenham have signed a Brazilian forward of their own in the form of Everton’s Richarlison, but Sagna is convinced that the Gunners have got the better player.

“Obviously Jesus [is better than Richarlison]! I can say that because I’ve seen him play and I’ve played with him – I know how committed he is and what he will bring to the Arsenal team,” Sagna added.

“Richarlison has done very well since he has been in the Premier League and he is making a step up by signing for Tottenham, but because he is playing for Spurs, I have to say Jesus [is better].

“I have a lot of respect for him as a player, but the fact is that he will now be playing for Spurs. I know I wasn’t born in London, but Arsenal means so much to me, so of course I will back Gabriel Jesus 100%.”
