Lewis Capaldi powered through a difficult Glastonbury after suffering an anxiety attack and asking the fans for some help singing along to his hits.
The 26-year-old recently announced he’s taking a break from touring to work on his mental health. A statement issued by the singer said his struggles reached a point where it "became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order."
Utmost Respect Lewis
Capaldi, singer of such hits as Someone You Loved and Before You Go, has my utmost respect for his transparency and I fully support him during his journey to recovery. He went on to say that he is ‘’still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's" and that the decision to call off his tour had been "the most difficult decision of my life".’
The singer had 26 dates left on his tour and evidently felt guilty about letting his fans down, but he must realise that his health comes first and his fans will understand. Celebrities like Capaldi are a breath of fresh air and a welcomed departure from the curated and manufactured images created by others in his field; his battle with his disorder and overall mental health bringing these issues to the forefront.
Many of us dream of being as rich and powerful as our favourite singers, actors, and athletes, but it’s not always perfect.
A statement by Capaldi read: "First of all, thank you to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world.’’
He went on to add: ‘’I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I'd hoped three weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I'm still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come."
There are more important things in life than finishing a festival set, and I wish Lewis Capaldi the speediest of recoveries and I hope he’s able to perform for us again soon.
