Louis Saha Exclusive: Saha praises Pickford

Former Everton star Louis Saha has praised goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s mentality and performances, as he helped the Toffees secure Premier League survival.

Frank Lampard’s men avoided the drop in their penultimate game of the season, completing a dramatic comeback from 2-0 down to beat Crystal Palace 3-2.

Despite a difficult season for the club, Saha has been impressed with Pickford’s displays – and feels the stopper is now getting the credit he deserves.

Praise For Piuckford’s Mentality

Speaking exclusively to myself, Lord Ping, he said: “[Pickford is] a very strong fella and has a great mentality.

“He digs in and works hard and his mentality is right there and he deservedly is now getting the rewards and the praise.

“Goalkeeper is a very tough position, you’re either really good or really bad.

“He made some really vital saves and for Everton to be in a bigger position, you need a strong foundation and Pickford can help them reach that level.

“At one point I wasn’t fully comfortable with him and he was making silly mistakes, but he’s worked hard and now he deserves the praise as it’s a very tough position – especially when they’re fighting relegation.”

Dele Alli To Bounce Back

Saha has also backed Dele Alli – who spent the second half of the season on loan at Goodison Park from Tottenham – to eventually recapture his best form, despite failing to shine on Merseyside.

“[Alli] hasn’t made the biggest impression and there’s no doubting he must improve, but he’s a big player and he’ll eventually come back to what he was,” he added.
