Steven Gerrard Can Turn Things Around

Steven Gerrard is under fire after his Aston Villa side’s poor recent results and mind-numbing style of play.

Villa have spent widely since the £100 sale of Jack Grealish in August 2021, bringing in talented attacking players like Leon Bailey, Danny Ings, and Philippe Coutinho, yet the squad has been unable to gel.

The mid-September matchup between Aston Villa and Southampton, which ended in a 1-0 Villa win, was panned by viewers and may be a candidate for the worst game in Premier League history. Though Villa won the match, the abomination served up that night proved to be the catalyst behind Gerrard’s declining stock.

Gerrard Under Pressure

Villa’s results have been poor since that fateful night and they have not registered a win since then. Though they drew against Manchester City, Gerrard’s men have slumped to defeat in their other games, and pressure on their manager is at an all-time high.

There are now widespread calls for Gerrard to be sacked - a narrative that I find to be a massive overstatement.

People are quick to forget that this is the same Gerrard who led Rangers to the SPL title following an unbeaten season, as well as laying the groundwork for the side who reached the Europa League final just a few months ago. Furthermore, he just happens to be one of the greatest players of all time, as well as being Liverpool’s greatest-ever player.

It’s far too early to sack Gerrard and the jury is still out on his managerial capabilities. Shockingly, there have been reports that the former Liverpool legend is already in the process of being replaced at Villa Park, rumours that the Aston Villa hierarchy have dismissed as ‘nonsense’.

Villa Dismiss Rumours

Speaking on the rumours, Aston Villa Communications Director Tommy Jordan said: How many times can you publish complete lies?’’ before trashing the publication who generated the rumours.

I sincerely hope that talk of Gerrard exiting Villa Park really is false, as the Premier League needs his status and box-office appeal. Losing Steve Bruce was hard enough, and I’m not sure I can take the departure of yet another competent English manager from the Premier League.

Mark my words, Aston Villa will improve and Steven Gerrard is more than capable of turning the Midlands club into the formidable powerhouse we all know it has the potential of being. Until then, let’s just sit back, relax, and enjoy the rollercoaster the England great is taking us on.
