2022 will surely be looked back on as a year of peaks and troughs. For every Platinum Jubilee, there was a rail strike. For every England Euros win, there was a Harry Kane penalty miss.
Perhaps the biggest bottom-feeders of the year, though, were the charlatans behind the digital media company Netflix.
The streaming giant has become a steaming pile of junk this year with their terrible offerings, tone-deaf dramas, and unforgivable coverage of our great monarchy. As the profits keep rolling in for Netflix, there seems to be no care or control over standards.
LORD PING: FOR OPINIONATED PLAYERS
Dahmer
Firstly, let’s talk about the superfluous Dahmer docuseries. Though Evan Peters gave a solid performance, the actor could only do so much with the subject matter and script he was given. The series, which detailed the life and crimes of serial killer Jeffery Dahmer, callously turned the convicted killer’s deeds into entertainment and didn’t even have the decency to change the names of the people he killed.
A series about a fictional serial killer is one thing, but to make money from Dahmer’s decade-long killing spree is something I thought even Netflix were too moral for.
The Crown
The company’s year got even worse with their abominable series The Crown. Far more fiction than fact, the series takes pride in taking potshots at our beloved Royal Family. The series even depicted a scene where Prince Charles devises a coup to overthrow his dear mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
I felt like throwing a brick through my TV when I saw this scene for the first time, and it was enough to give me nightmares for well over a week. What made this insulting depiction even worse was how it aired just weeks after the tragic, shocking, and untimely death of Her Majesty on 8 September 2022.
Harry And Meghan
The disgust caused by both Dahmer and The Crown paled in comparison to the Harry and Meghan series, though, which had me in floods of tears for all the wrong reasons. The maligned couple should have done the right thing in 2020 and quietly retired, yet presumably the bag of money offered to them by Netflix was too large for them to ignore.
The series is just over a week old, but I already consider it to be the worst television show of all-time and among the worst pieces of media ever created by mankind. If I could give out an award for the Biggest Chump of 2022, I’d happily award it to Netflix and all of their conniving staff.
