The great nation of Britain may still be collectively weeping after the shocking passing of Queen Elizabeth II, but we must take just as much time to look towards our future if we have any hopes of leading the world into the 2020s.
King Charles III gave a historic and monumental address earlier this week as he promised to rule with ‘royalty, respect, and love’ over the course of his already-wonderful reign.
Dressed in mourning black, the King’s first public address was televised to a heartbroken public and showcased the King’s friendly approach to Royal life. Charles III spoke with compassion, heart, and soul to his people and vowed that although he couldn’t replace the void left by his dear mother, it was his duty to serve in her memory.
Paying Tribute
The King said; "Throughout her life, Her Majesty The Queen - my beloved mother - was an inspiration and example to me and to all my family, and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother."
He added: ‘’"Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today,"
The broadcast brought me, a grown and financially-successful man, to the verge of tears. I wore my Sunday best in anticipation of the address and considered it one of the most important events in the history of the planet, with no exaggeration.
Everybody will remember where they were when they watched the King’s first address, and we’ll be telling our grandchildren about it in the future.
Pride In Our Royal Family
We are so incredibly blessed to live under an institution with as much prestige as our Royal Family. In a world where it’s ‘cool’ and ‘trendy’ to not respect authority, seeing the nation come together and embrace their new King made me feel like a kid in a candy shop. At a time when we need it most, the Royals have united the nation and reminded them of who’s truly in charge.
King Charles’ speech was met with widespread acclaim from around the world and hopes are high he can further build upon his mother’s pristine reputation. The former Prince of Wales brings over 70 years of Royal experience as well as a charming and highly personable public image. I, for one, can’t wait to see what he offers us.
The United Kingdom has a new Prime Minister and a new Monarch in the space of a week. September 2022 indeed marks the end of an era, and, although reflection is important, the country must look ahead if it wishes to thrive in times to come.
