What A Splendid Jubilee Weekend

Great Britain rejoiced this weekend as we celebrated the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s historic reign. The once-in-a-lifetime celebration took the country by storm and attracted people from all over the world.

There were street parties, concerts, picnics, and other great British pastimes in recognition of our beloved Head of State and I’m extremely pleased with the public for their efforts. Despite some questionable weather, the nation pulled through and created a celebration for the ages and one fitting for our greatest-ever ruler.

A Truly Special Celebration

The Jubilee really was something special. I have never in my life felt so proud to be British and never before have I felt so delightfully subservient to our incredible Royal Family. I’m a Royal lover all year round, but recently I’ve felt my admiration for those in Buckingham Palace has reached soaring new heights. Maybe it’s the Jubilee fever taking over, but I’m hardly complaining.

But the Platinum Jubilee was about a lot more than mere celebration and pageantry. For me, the weekend was a reminder of what Britain once was and, heartbreakingly, no longer is. You see, there was once a time when celebration of our Royals was a daily occurrence and the pride of being British wasn’t considered uncool or taboo. Annoying anti-Royalists were once ignored and challenged, yet nowadays they seem to be everywhere and there’s no escape from their terrifying agenda.

Street parties feel like a charming throwback now, but it wasn’t too long ago when they were a common sight. Before the social media age turned us all into introverted, self-obsessed hermits, Britain’s streets were lined with people engaging in real life conversation over tea and scones. As great as it was to see these sights again, I’d be lying if they didn’t conjure up some pensive nostalgia in me and make me yearn for simpler times.

A Nation United

All in all, I think it’s a great shame that it has taken such a monumental occasion for our country to finally forget its differences and come together. If you ask me, every day should be a celebration of our beautiful monarchy and each morning should begin with a recognition of our blessings. Living in Britain is a true honor and life under the Royal Family is something I would give my very life to protect.  Other countries can only envy the pedigree and lineage of our throne and it’s time Britons realized this every day.

The Platinum Jubilee took place against the backdrop of the recent coronavirus pandemic and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, but Britons were able to put their struggles to one side and celebrate in a way only they know how. The celebration was a needed break from the hustle and bustle of real life and provided some essential escapism from the pressures of the modern world.

Never Felt So Patriotic

I can only hope for 70 more years under Elizabeth II if it was biologically possible. Rest assured, however, that her reign will be celebrated and remembered for centuries to come. I haven’t felt so giddy and patriotic in so long, and only wish the euphoria of the Jubilee could last forever.

Like all things, though, this quintessentially British celebration had to come to an end at some point. The majestic highs felt by the nation climaxed on Sunday evening, yet the troubles faced by this nation will inevitably return to the forefront of our minds soon enough. However, I feel as though it’s vital that the public dedicates a little bit of time each day to acknowledge the greatness of those who rule over them.

God save the Queen.
