Louis Saha Exclusive: Pogba Perfect For Chelsea

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha believes that Paul Pogba and Chelsea are an “obvious match”, due to the presence of N’Golo Kante at Stamford Bridge.

Pogba is set to leave United on a free transfer for the second time in his career, having made over 200 appearances for the Red Devils.

And Saha feels that pairing the 29-year-old with France team-mate Kante at club level would be the perfect way to help Pogba achieve his obvious potential – having fallen short of the standards expected of him at Old Trafford.

Chelsea The Obvious Match

Speaking exclusively to myself, Lord Ping, he said: “Chelsea is the obvious match because he [Pogba] loves to play with N’Golo Kante.

“We always try to compare what he does with France and United, and the ability of Kante makes Pogba play to another dimension and that’s the truth.

“Only Pogba can indicate where he wants to go, I’m just sad he hasn’t fulfilled his dream.

“He’ll be a big miss because he's one of the best in his position, but when you look at his overall achievements you can understand his frustration.

“I’m annoyed because there's talk that he hasn’t contributed at all, but just like [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka, I’d love to see him in a club who are playing well and winning trophies, because he’s an amazing player.

“[However], no-one is bigger than the club.”

Rice And De Jong United Links

United have been linked with West Ham’s Declan Rice and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong as potential replacements for the departing Pogba.

Saha believes both potential additions would be astute moves, but favours the signing of Rice due to his Premier League experience.

“De Jong hasn’t played in the Premier League so he’ll need time to adapt, but what a talent,” he said.

“It’s hard to pick. [Rice] is a brilliant prospect and very strong in the middle of the park. He’s an asset defending and going forward.

“If I had to pick I’d go for Rice as he provides security and it would be easy for him to adapt because of his experience.”

United Environment Not Helped

Saha feels that the environment at United has not necessarily helped players reach peak performance, pointing to Wan-Bissaka as another who he hopes can return to the level he managed at Crystal Palace by leaving Old Trafford.

“To be honest, I don’t understand what’s happened with Wan-Bissaka,” he added.

“I thought he was improving but I think criticism has been unfair because he did well in his first two years.

“He’s playing in a team which is not showing its quality and he needs confidence from the overall structure.

“He’s one of the players who has been used as a scapegoat because he’s a brilliant player.”

Erik ten Hag Should Lean On Legends

And Saha thinks incoming head coach Erik ten Hag would benefit from speaking to United legends and learning the culture of the club, as the Dutchman looks to rebuild at Old Trafford.

“[Ten Hag] needs to build an understanding of the club,” he explained.

“I think he should try and talk to Gary Neville and some people inside the club, maybe Darren Fletcher, to help his staff understand the culture of the club.

“There’s been a big problem in terms of mentality which was somewhat restored by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but there still needs to be work on the foundation, the plan and think about the actual players.”
